Natural basic hair shampoo recipe. |

This recipe has a shelf life of two months and can be a combination of both a hair shampoo and a shower gel. It is particularly good with hair loss and leaving hair feeling thicker. Why not separate the batch in to both a shampoo and a shower gel and add the best essential oils for your needs by looking at essential oils and your hair page and essential oils and your skin page. You can add the used ingredients to your compost in your garden after you have finished making this recipe.
Ingredients:
6-10 soap nuts
1 pint of de-ionized water (to also make the shower gel recipe. Half a pint for just shampoo )
A few drops of essential oil of your choice. Take a look at the essential oils guide chart for help.
2 drops of grapefruit seed extract.
Recipe:
1/ Break the soap nuts in half and add to a pint of cold water in a saucepan.
2/ Bring the water and soap nuts to the boil, then simmer for 15 minutes.
3/ Allow the solution to cool.
4/ Once cooled, strain the soap nut solution.
5/ If making both the shampoo and shower gel, divide half the solution evenly into a separate jug.
6/ Add a few drops of which ever essential oil you choose to a shampoo bottle.
7/ Add a drop or two of grapefruit seed extract to preserve the shampoo for up to two months.
8/ Add the soap nut solution and shake well.
How to use:
Soap nut shampoo has mild lathering qualities so will not foam up like shop bought shampoos. A little goes a long way. Try applying an amount the size of a large coin in your hand and smoothing it over your hair and gently rub it in. Hair washed with soap nut feels healthier and thicker. This recipe is particularly good for hair loss.
